recurrent pregnancy loss

You’ve been through it more than once. The excitement. The early symptoms.
The gentle daydreaming of holding your baby. And then it’s all gone. Again.

Doctors call it a miscarriage. But for you, it’s something deeper. Something that leaves a scar that doesn’t show on scans. If this has happened two or more times, you may have heard this term: recurrent pregnancy loss.

And one hidden cause? Clotting disorders something most women haven’t even heard of.

So, What’s a Clotting Disorder?

Your blood is supposed to clot to stop bleeding when you get hurt. But in some women, the blood clots too much or too easily even when it shouldn’t. If that happens inside the tiny blood vessels that feed your placenta, it can stop oxygen and nutrients from reaching your baby.

This condition is often linked to Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) or thrombophilia, and it might be silently interfering with your pregnancy without any visible symptoms.

How Would You Know?

You wouldn’t unless you’re tested for it. Doctors usually recommend clotting disorder tests if:

  • You’ve had 2 or more miscarriages
  • Your miscarriage happened after 10–12 weeks
  • You’ve had a history of unexplained stillbirth or early delivery
  • You or someone in your family has had a blood clot or autoimmune issue.

These tests are not part of a routine check-up. They’re usually done only when there’s a reason to look deeper.

What Can Be Done If It’s Diagnosed?

If your test is positive, the good news is it can be managed.
You may be put on:

It’s not a simple road but it’s a hopeful one. Many women go on to have healthy babies after diagnosis and treatment.
